Neuromuscular

Neuromuscular Dentistry (NMD) practitioners study the unique relationships of posture and alignment, biomechanics, circulatory system, musculature, and the central and autonomic nervous systems. Through habit (clenching or grinding) or a collapsed bite (see before and after pictures) the lower jaw may not be in optimal functioning position. Because of this patients may experience symptoms such as popping of the jaw, headaches, tooth pain, and Temporal Mandibular Disorder (TMD). NMD places the occlusion (the way your teeth fit together) where the muscles that control jaw position are at physiological rest for optimal function and comfort.

Thermo-Plastic Night Guard – Custom designed to each patient, the guard is worn at night to ease the pressure on the TM joint from clenching or grinding. This device can also be worn during the day to help protect the teeth from wear.

TMD Treatment - TMD, or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, can have many causes including inefficient and improper placement of the lower jaw. Clenching and grinding can also play a role in causing or increasing symptoms. Neuromuscular Dentistry is a relatively new field that can help to address TMD. The best solution we have found for non-surgical cases of TMD is physical therapy. Call our office today and we will schedule a consult with Dr. Jenny and provide you with a referral to a local physical therapist to address your pain and concerns.
